On our holidays, heading off the beaten track is something most of us would really like to do. Famous tourist spots, often located in famous places, have been overexposed to us that it has come to a point where actually seeing them in person has become tiresome. Some of this major and well know tourist spots will most likely end up causing you more hassle than they are worth, depending on what time of the year you choose to visit. A lot of these tourist attractions ends up getting fully booked with unrelenting and long queues within minutes on peak times, especially on school breaks. All these may only be worth it if you’ve been wanting to visit an attraction for a long time already. It may be better for you to slightly go off the beaten track if you would like a more authentic experience of a place you have chosen to visit. An example of this is Copenhagen, one of the most famous tourist destinations as of lately.
Christiania – The Freetown
If seeing the way other people go on with their lives and getting our of regular civilization is something you like to do, then you have basically hit the jackpot with Freetown Christiania. It is an alternative hippy commune set up by a group of like-minded people in the 70s, not far from the Copenhagen city center. After Christiania and the authorities have come to an agreement in 2011, it has been left alone despite original opposition from the past. You cannot buy a house in the small town; you will have to apply for one and meet a particular criteria which is given to you, and it is also car-free. There is always a lot of things going on, from live music to excellent street food and even a local market.
No matter how artsy and quirky neighborhoods could go, nowhere in the world does it better than the Vesterbro. This area, located in the southwest of the city, was once known for being a heavily working class neighborhood and was even famed for its red-light district! It is now known as a trendy and hip place full of independent attractions, cafes and easteries. You just have to spend a bit of time walking through the streets and seeing what you can come across.

While you are on vacation, a cemetery may be quite an unusual place to visit. But you should consider and give this one a chance. You can easily spend an afternoon whiling away the hours here as it is famed for its incredible beauty. In here, you will also be able to see the final resting places of famous people.
